Purpose
Biliary stent insertion is a procedure to allow drainage of bile into the intestine, which is the normal route, by inserting a stent made of plastic or metal into the narrowed area after accessing the biliary tract in the liver through the skin and parenchyma of the liver

A disease in which all or part of the biliary duct is obstructed by gallstones or tumors, causing severe jaundice

Biliary stent insertion is a procedure in which a stent made of plastic or metal is inserted into the narrowed area after accessing the biliary duct in the liver through the skin and parenchyma of the liver so that bile can drain into the intestine, the normal route.
Problems
- Perforation due to detachment of the stent and high rate of restenosis
- Plastic stent : It has a shorter lifespan than a metal stent, so it needs to be replaced every 3 months, which is the clogging period (replacement rate: 45%)
- Metal stent : Cannot be removed oncethe stent is closed
